Summer: Muju Firefly Festival

The county of Muju (무주) in North Jeolla Province is for its Muju Firefly Festival  (반딧불축제). Muju is known for their beautiful summer scenery and fireflies. It took place from 3rd June 2011 till 11th June 2011. It marks the first summer festival in Korea.

Koreans regard fireflies special creatures and they are considered to be Korea’s natural monuments. The intention of the festival is also a reminder for us to educate the preservation of fireflies and to appreciate nature.

So if you have missed this year’s firefly festival, remember to head down to Muju next summer to view these wonderful gift from Mother Nature.
