Jeonju Trip 2012

Recently, I visited Jeonju City(전주시/全州市) in North Jeolla Province (전라북도/全羅北道), which is located at the Southwestern side of the Korean Peninsular, approximately 3 hours from Seoul.

Jeonju is the birthplace of Bibimbap. Jeonju’s beansprouts is said to be the best throughout the country. Yukhoe (육회) is added with other fresh ingredients.

Another must-try dish in Jeonju is Kongnamulgukbap (콩나물국밥), or Beansprouts Soup Rice. Jeonju is also the birthplace of this dish and it definitely taste different from what you get in Seoul – due to its delicious beansprouts.

For those who love makgeolli (막걸리) may find it strange why the price of makgeolli is more than 10,000 won while you only need to pay for about 3000 won in Seoul. That is because you will get the generous side dishes of the taste of Jeonju.

Jeonju is also the birthplace of two K-pop idols – Kim Taeyeon of SNSD and Kim Sungkyu of Infinite.
