Korean Trending Celebrities

It’s already July for the year 2013. 2013 is indeed of year of scandals in the Korean entertainment industry. However, many celebrities managed to become the trend of the year. Let’s find out who stands out this year.

(born September 14 1989 in Seoul, Korea)

Lee Jong-suk (이종석) wanted to become an actor as he love of watching TV. He was a trainee in SM Entertainment. However, he left the label and became an actor. He received criticism for both acting and MC-ing skills. However, his acting skill was finally being recognised in ‘School 2013 (학교2013)’ and now became a trend as the male lead in ‘I Hear Your Voice(너의 목소리가 들려)”

  • Strength: Much improved acting skill. Good at choosing dramas such as “Secret Garden”, “School 2013” and “I Hear Your Voice.
  • Weakness: MC skill

(born April 27, 1987 in Hainan, China)

Since the debut of miss A, Fei (페이) was always overshadowed by more popular members Suzy, Min and Jia. However, 2013 is indeed a year for Fei. First, she displayed her culinary skills in Master Chef Korea Celebrity and then in Dancing with the Stars 3. Now, Fei has even her own solo endorsement for CathyCat and many people had praised her goddess look.

  • Strength: Culinary and Dancing
  • Weakness: Korean Language

Henry Lau

(born October 11, 1989 in Toronto, Canada)

Henry (헨리) is multi-talented musically: singing, rapping, beat boxing, music compose, song writing, violin, piano, drum, breakdance, popping, latin dance, ballet…. he knows it all. His ethnicity is Chinese and he knows how to speak English, Mandarin, Korean, Cantonese, Japanese, French and a little Thai. Being part of Super Junior-M, he is not very well-known in Korea. This year however, he displayed his culinary skills in both Asian and Western cuisines for Master Chef Korea, and also his solo debut in Korea. He was also praised for his variety skills in “Happy Together”.

  • Strengths: Both musically and culinary talented
  • Weakness: His nasal singing technique is either a yay or a nay

ZE:A Hyungsik


ZE:A Hyungsik

(born November 16, 1991 in Yongin City, Korea)

It’s hard to build a positive image as an idol. Many were bashed for saying the wrong thing or poor acting skills. However, Hyungsik  (박형식) managed to build up a positive image through ‘Real Man’, a reality show in which celebrities will experience life in the army. Certainly Hyungsik has been the trend. Park Hyung-sik starred in “Nine” as the younger version of the male lead, which received some praises. He might be starring in drama “Heir”, but not confirmed yet.

  • Strength: Respectful, speaks eloquently, never gives up, actor aura
  • Weakness: With Kwanghee’s variety, Siwan’s “Moon Embracing the Sun” and Hyung-sik’s “Real Man”,  ZE:A needs to be more recognized for their songs if they still want to continue as an idol group.
